Wedding: Ashley + Joe at Pine Ridge Country Club

Posted on January 28, 2010

* Ashley and Joe were one of my favorite engagement sessions from last year. It’s hard not to when she brought a change of shoes rather than clothes!

* You really couldn’t have asked for better weather the day of the wedding, while not a lot of sun was to be found, it was a balmy 40 degrees and there was no snow. Pretty much a perfect day for Cleveland!

* I LOVED these bridesmaid dresses. I have a bit of an obsession with chiffon and the colors matched my logo colors! Awesome!

* Ashley was ready when I arrived at 11AM, WAY before all the bridesmaids, I have to say that was a first!

* Ashley also came with her own glue gun which she whipped out and used to fix up some of her bouquets to more of the idea she had in her mind. You gotta love a bride that isn’t afraid to use a glue gun the morning of her wedding!

* The guys were relaxed, fun and just so fun to be around.

* The ceremony was beautiful and I loved all the winter details that Ashley chose to accent the theme of the wedding.

* By far one of the most crowded dance floors I have ever seen. It was packed ALL night long! This group knew how to boogie!

* Special thanks to Colleen Reed for being my second shooter!

Brides Talk: Bethany

Posted on January 26, 2010

I think my blog about Bethany and Lee’s wedding sums up everything about their wedding. By far it was one of the craziest weddings of the year for me, but it was also the most memorable as it was so full of love that you could feel it everywhere you went. The speeches weren’t about roasting the couple but was about how much they loved being there. There was tears and laughter abound. It was just a beautiful day – perfect in every way save for that pesky weather issue. In a perfect world, they would have had a perfect day but who really wants perfection?? I think that the rainy day and minor disasters made for a more interesting day and memories to be made for a lifetime.

Thank you both for hiring me and letting me be a part of your magical day. I loved EVERY minute of it!

Top Ten Reasons why we would recommend Corey to anyone and everyone:

1. Of all our wedding decisions, hiring Corey was easily one of the best ones we made.

2. Her pictures online are truly representative of her work.

3. All of our pictures were posted online to view within 5 days of the wedding.

4. Corey seemed to appreciate the rain, mud, and power outages as an exciting challenge for her job. She smiled even as she stood outside getting soaked.

5. Without blinking, her husband/ photography assistant volunteered his electrician skills to fix the power outages in our tent in the middle of the reception.

6. Her eye for capturing the slightest mannerisms and idiosyncrasies is incredible.

7. Corey takes the time and effort to post her own personal impressions and enjoyments of each wedding she shoots.

8. Her story of taking a career risk to pursue photography full time is an inspiring example of someone bold enough to follow her true passion.

9. After the wedding she offered her personal time to advise us on the purchase of our new DSLR camera.

10. Months later, we still have friends who, upon seeing her pictures posted on our Facebook pages, ask who our photographer was and how we found her.

It’s kind of hard not to love people that say that kind of stuff about you isn’t it? Here’s her selection of pictures!

Bethany got ready in her suite bathroom with all of her friends. It was very casual and perfect!

I adored Bethany’s dress, simple, elegant and chiffon (which I ADORE).

The groom got ready in the basement and enjoyed some pre-ceremony scotch with family and friends.

An embrace after the ceremony that I caught on my way back to the cabin.

bride and groom on swing at indian bear lodge in ohio

Since it was pouring rain I kept them to the porch and cabin for the pictures. It worked out though since the porch had some great features!

bride and groom exit a teepee at indian bear lodge in ohio

The rain let up just enough at the end of the evening to run down to the firepit by the pond for some pictures in the area that the bride and groom wanted, including this one. It started pouring again about this time though!

Switch Cities – Print Auction for Haiti

Posted on January 25, 2010

As you may have figured out, I have a bit of a bleeding heart. It is no surprise then that I’m participating in the second round of the Haiti Auction over at Switch Cities.

Go visit and bid for a print! All of the money raised will go to a charity to benefit Haiti. Of course, bidding on mine is highly encouraged! It’s a picture of Ocracoke’s beach, which is near to my heart!

2009 Year in Review: Favorite Moments

Posted on January 21, 2010

By far my favorite favorite favorite thing about weddings is the unforgettable moments that happen. I strive to capture what I can of those moments on camera and these pictures reflect some of my favorite moments this year. Some funny, some sad and some just outrageous.

What are your favorite moments at weddings? When you first see the bride? The first kiss? The cake?

bride crying during honorary father dance with her brother at massimo de milano in clevelandCodi’s brother Eric gave a heart wrenching speech prior to his dance with her in place of their recently lost father.  Having lost my father myself not too long ago, this moment literally ripped my heart out.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the venue, vendors and guests alike.

bride and groom exit ceremony at fieldcrest in north cantonThe sight and the delicious smell of the lavender being tossed at Kate and Ravi as they exited the altar is a hard sight to forget!

guest giving bride a lap dance at Springvale BallroomWhile there were many moments that are hard to forget from Jillian and Kevin’s wedding, the random guest that came and gave Jillian a lap dance before the garter removal has to be one of the funniest and memorable of the evening and year. Everyone was speechless!

ringbearers hold hands walking up aisle in BereaThe ringbearer on the left had no qualms about running up the aisle. However when he turned and noticed his friend was a bit more shy, he walked back down the aisle and took his hand. He then guided him back up the aisle slowly. It was a precious moment that I will smile about for a long time.

coordinator at the radisson in willoughby fixing a bridesmaids dress2009 was a year for dress disasters and this is one of the ones that stick out in my mind the most thanks to a savvy coordinator and a calm bridesmaid. What could have resulted in some serious drama was dealt with quickly, patiently and with care. MAD props to the bridesmaid for being a trooper while we all tried to figure out a solution and the coordinator for saving the night!

groom wiping tears from eyes of bride during ceremony at atwood lake resortI think this picture speaks volumes without having to say a word. It’s hard to forget Mark wiping tears from Maureen’s eyes, especially so tenderly.

flower girl performing the stanky leg dance at delucas place in the parkWhen the ‘Stanky Leg’ was new not a lot of people quite knew what the dance was, however this flower girl not only knew it but she rocked it! I think many jaws are still dropped over this moment!

bride on ground laughing at Lakeside Center in NavarreSometimes the most cheesiest poses can turn into the most hysterical moments, this picture is a case in point about that. I try not to do a lot of the contrived poses but this group wanted a picture of them holding back the bride from running away. However Becky ran a bit harder than they expected and she fell on the ground resulting in lots of laughs!

groom crying during ceremony at damascus friends churchI was warned that Adam would cry… however I had no idea that he would cry so hard they had to stop the ceremony to let him collect himself!! Wonderful moment in both laughter and tears!

bride getting dress sewn on before wedding in Canton OhioAnother dress disaster yet this one was Carla’s dress. She handled it with grace and patience, something I’m not sure that I would be able to do if the roles were reversed. Her bridesmaids were seriously AMAZING helping sewing her in and keeping her spirits up while the whole debacle ensued.

groom doing the thriller dance at the wyndham in ClevelandI LOVE when grooms dance so when Larry busted out his Thriller moves, I was in photographer HEAVEN!

bride and groom choreographed dance to LowI was one of the few people that knew about Tricia and Jason’s choreographed dance to “Low” for their first dance. Knowing and seeing though are two different things and I absolutely ADORED seeing this take place!

groomsman singing the humpty dance at the key club in clevelandOne of the great things about having a band is that it enables the musical guests to show off their talent. Case in point is Tracy and Dan’s groomsman who belted out a spectacular rendition of “The Humpty Dance” and got the crowd going.

bride and father crying when they first see each otherAs soon as Jennifer’s Dad came out of his room and saw Jennifer at the end of the hallway, tears began streaming down both of their faces. It was a moment I’ll keep in my heart for years to come.

bride and groom listen to readings during the ceremony at Indian Bear LodgeInstead of the standard love poem readings, Bethany and Lee chose to have their family and friends read letters they had wrote to each other over the course of their relationship. It was such a beautiful idea and moment. A perfect way to bring things full circle!

bride tackles groom during football game at the pro football hall of fameBy far one of the most unexpected moments was Carolyn and Matt’s bridal party playing tackle football after the ceremony at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The girls didn’t shy away and weren’t afraid to run, toss and tackle in their dresses either! I LOVED IT!

bride and groom exit ceremony in a classic hot rodFinally who wouldn’t list watching Heather and Brian exit their ceremony in a classic hot rod???

Thank you!

For the second year in a row I have received the Wedding Wire Brides Choice award!

Thank you so much to my brides that have reviewed me on Wedding Wire. I am a big fan of review sites online (I research the heck out of anything I buy it, which is a huge reason why I am an Amazon LOVER) so Wedding Wire is right up my alley. I wish they had it when I got married!!

Want to see the lovely things people are saying about me? Click here to go to my page on Wedding Wire. If you haven’t reviewed me yet (or whomever your wedding vendors were) you still can and if you review 5 vendors they also give you a gift card!

Brides Talk: Rachel

Posted on January 19, 2010

Last June, I had the honor to be Rachel & Jeff’s photographer.  It’s hard not to just adore a client that greets you upon arrival with your favorite snack food!!  Rachel is also seriously just a great person.  No matter what went wrong, she kept her cool and never got frazzled.  It’s easy to love clients that roll with the punches!  Their wedding was a photographers dream with a beautiful ceremony location and an equally stunning reception hall.  I absolutely loved all of the personal touches that Rachel incorporated into her wedding including all of the old family photos from weddings!!!  Thanks again for hiring me and allowing me to be a part of your magical day!

When I began planning my wedding, finding the perfect photographer was extremely important to me.  I decided I really liked the photojournalistic style of wedding photography and began looking for photographers in this style.  I felt like every photographer I found in this style was too fake… the pictures all looked like posed models who were never smiling and their real personalities weren’t coming through.  I then turned to the knot and that is where I found Corey.  When I looked at her website, I immediately fell in love.  She was EXACTLY what I was looking for.  She uses the perfect balance of the photojournalistic style, yet she also seizes the fun essence of her couples and the moments of their weddings.  Since I live in South Carolina, I had to plan my wedding from afar, and after talking with Corey on the phone I booked her immediately.  I couldn’t be happier with my decision. There is not a single moment from my wedding that wasn’t captured on film — even moments that I didn’t know occurred!  The pictures are absolutely gorgeous, while still showing Jeff and my personalities along with all of our friends and families.  Wedding days and honeymoons end, and flowers die.  But the pictures Corey took are the only part of our wedding that will last a lifetime.  I am so glad that I chose Corey to be the one to capture those lifelong memories.

One of my favorite shots of the ‘cake’ EVER!

2009 Year in Review: Rings

Posted on January 18, 2010

Continuing on the trend of my favorite details to shoot at a wedding, my next favorite is rings!  I love the rings but I prefer to shoot them OFF the fingers.  I always try and do the standard favorite shot – in the bouquet but then I try and have fun and incorporate something into the ring shot that is a part of the wedding or something fun to do with the couple.  I also always TRY to keep the rings clean but after seeing some fun ideas out there next year I may be a bit more daring when it comes to food + rings.  I’ll be prepared with wipes I promise!

So here are some of my favorite ring shots of 2009.  What is your favorite?  What style of ring shot do YOU like best?

Choosing a favorite is not easy for me but I think I love the shot of Nooriya and Randy’s rings best (black and white in the bottom left hand corner of second collage) followed by Jessica and Larry’s rings on the rock candy on the far left of the third collage!

2009 Year in Review: Bouquets

Posted on January 14, 2010

After shoes, one of my favorite details at weddings is the flowers – particularly the bouquets.  The smells, the textures, the flowers, the way they are tied together – it is so many beautiful aspects in one.  This year I had so many various bouquets – the predominant flower this year was hydrangea, which changed from last year’s favorite of the classic rose.  I can’t wait to see what flower 2010 brings.  I have to say though, Jillian’s peony bouquet was my favorite hands down.  It smelled divine and was such a beautiful shade of pink!  LOVED it!

My personal favorite flower is a lilac closely followed by daffodil.  However I’ve yet to see a bouquet with either one.  What is your favorite flower?
