Travel | Connecticut and Rhode Island

After Kim’s wedding I had another day and a half to explore the area and I made sure to do just that!  Sunday Gianina and I headed out east for the fabled land of Rhode Island.  I can’t recall but I’m about  90% sure that I had never been there before (I may have driven through it but I don’t THINK I did lol) and I have to say I was quite charmed.  Sunday was the lighthouse day and we started out the furthest away from our hotel and worked our way back.  All week they had been calling for all sorts of different weather – up until the trip it was supposed to be sunny and 80º, then they changed it to rainy and 70º which made us cancel our original plans to go to Block Island.  However the day of ended up being sunny and 80º despite them calling for rain all day.  Crazy weather!

We started the day out all the way in Newport, Rhode Island and I was totally charmed by this city.  I wish that I had researched the town a bit more before going as it was completely adorable and chock full of history.  We worked our way back east along the coast from there visiting Jamestown and Point Judith before going back to the hotel.  Gianina left from there to head home and I curled up with my kindle and had a lovely night.

The next day I met up with another “Joe” friend Cheri and her adorable daughter Scotland and had a YUMMY breakfast at Perk on Main (HIGHLY recommend it, delicious crepe!) and then headed out to Stonington.  I wish so much I had more time to explore that city, it was adorable and so quaint.  I vow to return someday!  I then finished off the exploring with the city EVERYONE said I had to go to, Mystic.  It was super cute but really, really crowded.  There was also a ton of construction which killed that “historic” thing but I’d like to give it a second chance someday.

Enjoy the pics from the rest of the trip!

How fun to find a wedding ceremony set up at the lighthouse!  I am guessing it was for the day before.  I am hoping someone brings me back someday to photograph a wedding here!

Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown Rhode Island

Our next stop was to see Beavertail Lighthouse in Beavertail State Park.

The area surrounding the lighthouse was so beautiful.  Amazing cliffs!  People were everywhere lounging and picnicking on the rocks and it was amazing.  I was kind of jealous I must admit – I wanted to be dining with them!

I love getting lighthouse reflections!

Dutch Island Lighthouse in Rhode Island

Not too far from Beavertail we went to Fort Getty which gave us a view of the Dutch Island Lighthouse just a bit offshore in Rhode Island.

Surfing at Point Judith in Rhode Island

I was really surprised to find all of these surfers at Point Judith.

The next day I headed out to the Mystic region and my first stop was in Stonington, CT.  SUCH a cute area!  I started off at the beach where this Queen’s Anne’s Lace was along the shoreline.

There was a scenic overlook of Mystic along the highway and I was delighted to see that there was a lighthouse to see too!

Mystic Seaport in Mystic Connecticut.  Yes, this is where Mystic Pizza is but no, I didn’t go there.  Not enough time 🙁  Hopefully next time.
