Corey Talks • Camera Ready Hair

wedding ceremony

Here are some tips on how to make sure that your hair is camera ready during your wedding!

Hair Trial

–  You get to see what you will look like and know what you want to tweak before the big day.  Not only will this eliminate stress the day of when things aren’t perfect but it will cut down on time on creating that perfect style.

–  You get to figure out just how long it will take to get that style to correctly plan out your timeline (don’t forget to add a bit extra time for primping and putting in the veil).

–  Put that style through its paces!  You won’t be sitting still the whole day of your wedding so make sure to shimmy, shake and have a dance party of one with your hair.  Make sure that it’s going to hold through the ceremony AND reception!

–  Take a picture – or ten – of yourself and make sure you like your hair from ALL angles.  Because even if there is a featured “side” you will be photographed from all angles.  Keep that in mind when coming up with the perfect ‘do.

The Part

–  People tend to part to one side of the other, keep in mind when deciding which way to part of what will be facing the guests during the ceremony and which side you WANT people to see.

–  Left parts generally have the “focus” part of the style on the right side, when there is an updo, this is the ideal part because the updo is generally featured on the right side, which is what the guests see (see above photo of Danielle for an example).

–  Right parts generally have the feature on the left side, which is ideal for when hair is down or in a low side ponytail.  When the hair is pulled off to the left side when down, it allows your guests to see your face during the ceremony (unless your ceremony has the bride on the right, then reverse the advice for parts!).  If it’s pulled off to the right shoulder, sometimes your face gets hidden and it makes it hard to see!

–  Have someone take a photo of you from the side you plan on having face the guests so that you know and are happy with how that side will look, which will most likely be the most photographed.

The Veil

–  When you do your hair trial, you may also want to do a veil trial if it is at all possible so you can see where it will sit and what it will look like with your style.

–  If you are planning to take a veil out before or shortly into the reception, make sure that your hairdo will not be affected aversely from a veil.  Sometimes the combs leave an unsightly bump and it’s VERY noticeable in pictures later on.

–  Before you greet guests during a receiving line TAKE YOUR VEIL OUT.  You can easily put it back in but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to redo a hairdo because a guest grabbed the veil when hugging the new bride and ripped out a few bobby pins and undone an updo along the way.  Trust me, take it out.

The Glitz

–  If you are going to glam up your do with a special something, make sure to place it so it is seen so if you want it to be seen during the ceremony, place it on the side of your head that will be facing the audience.

–  Many of my brides choose to change out their veil for a fun clip or pin during the ceremony and I love this idea, it is something to change up your look without going to much fuss for it.

Up or Down

–  If it’s going to be windy and any portion of your day OR pictures will be taken outside, opt for the updo.

–  If you are likely to get headaches from your hair being tight on your head, leave your hair down.  Again, make sure to have a trial to make sure that not only you can have the style last all day but that it won’t give you a headache as well.  I can’t tell you how many brides I’ve had that get headaches by the end of the night from their hairstyles, which is never a fun feeling!!!

Fussy

–  The more your touch your hair, the worse it looks generally.  Stay away from styles that will need constant fussing.  Not only will it drive you batty, but more often than not, that’s when you will be captured by me AND your guests.

–  This applies especially to side swept bangs.  Once you start fussing with them, they start separating, getting greasy and falling in your eyes MORE.  When you do your hair trial, make sure any sweepies like this stay in place with minimal fussing.

–  Try to avoid having anything in your eyes because I promise you all day you’ll be having the hair brushed from your eyes so your intended can see your face!

It’s You!

–  Above all else, don’t go for a style that is so far beyond your normal that you become unrecognizeable!  Stay true to yourself!  🙂
