At the end of July I did my yearly trek to New Orleans and hit up River Road for a day to do one of my favorite things, visit plantations and take pictures of them!
I revisited Nottoway Plantation which I last saw in January of 2008 and since then it has had a multi million dollar renovation. While it still looks the same the grounds and the ground floor has undergone amazing changes. It was so amazing and wonderful to see!
We ate lunch at one of the new additions, The Mansion Restaurant which is now located on the ground floor of the plantation. Not only was it an awesome location (glassed in part of the circular side) but the food and service were also outstanding! I started it off with cornbread and champagne, it only gets better from there!
One of the most impressive rooms at Nottoway is the white ballroom.
Another part of the white ballroom. This is one of those paintings that are designed to have the eyes follow you. It’s quite creepy.
The dining room is not only impressive due to everything in it but also because of all the hand painted china.
The intricate iron work on the railing on the balcony at Nottoway.
The balcony on the outside of the white ballroom… so pretty!
One of the plantation sites I’ve wanted to visit for a long time is the site of Germania Plantation. Sadly this plantation home collapsed not too long ago and the entire site is falling down. Sadly due to a family battle over who “owns” it, it’s falling to ruins while they fight it out in court. Hopefully some of the buildings can be saved before it’s too far gone.
One of the outbuildings at Germania Plantation.
The cupola of one of the buildings that have collapsed on the site.
One of the barns on the site that is still standing but barely. It does have lots of antiques inside I’m told and hopefully those are saved before this too falls down.
One of my friends came with me and he needed a new headshot, what’s better than the location of a plantation that is in ruins? LOL the light was gorgeous though!
One of the new beds in the newly opened Bocage Plantation B&B. Bocage is so amazing, SO amazing. This bed was my favorite by far, just wow. The whole plantation was recently renovated and opened as a B&B. I hope to stay here someday soon!
This was one of the neatest things inside the mansion in one of the old antique mirrors – this is diamond dust that was sprinkled onto the mirror when they were making it. So cool.
The outside of Bocage Plantation. It was raining (as it always is when I am in New Orleans) so it was hard to get a great shot!

[…] works for the company. The White Castle was written by one of the women that used to live at Nottoway Plantation, disguising her name as a man so that she could get it […]
missed out on going to see the plantations. Really like Nottaway and Oak Alley.
