Shootsac Arrives!!

Posted on February 28, 2008

I finally got my long-awaited Shootsac today!  I immediately loaded it up and after a bit of rearranging I think that things will work out nicely.  I will reserve full critiques until I have taken it out on a shoot though.  I also got my two covers “Gold Strike” and “Thankful.”  Wait are you saying what I said?  I thought I got “Tranquil.”  I think there was yet another messup for my poor sad order.  “Thankful” is a beautiful cover but the color-coordinating freak in me doesn’t like the shade of brown that is predominant in this fabric with the black.  I wrote to the company so we shall see how things end up.  I really DO adore the “Gold Strike” though and I think the shimmer is just fantastic!!!  I am very glad that I was able to get this cover!

Edited to add: Wow, Shootsac is really aiming to please, they are sending me out the “Traquil” tomorrow!

Thankful

WPPI with a slice of shoes!

Posted on February 28, 2008

I will be out of town from March 11th- 20th because I will be attending WPPI in Las Vegas with a dear friend of mind, Kelly Ward.  WPPI to those of you that are not photographers is a huge convention that a lot of photographers go to every year.  I’ve never been so I’m quite excited.  I hear it is a great time – you learn a lot and you also get to meet some fantastic people.   Kelly and I are also flying in a day early to go to the Grand Canyon and to hit Route 66.  I can’t wait to travel with a shutterbug.  My husband is very tolerant of the “STOP!  I want a shot of that!” schreeches but I can imagine that it does get old.

So shoes.  We must talk footwear.  I’m a shoe girl.  Love the lovely shoes.  I keep chanting to myself “do not go to Manolo… do not go to Manolo” because I live in Ohio and there is no Manolo to be seen here.  Last March I took a trip to NYC to see The Drowsy Chaperone and also wanted to hit up Manolo when I was there for some kick butt shoes for the wedding.  Instead I ran into Ty Pennington and never made it to Manolo (true story).  So I still have yet to make it to my shoe-god store.  However… I have some shoes to cover the bases until then.  If you see me in Vegas heading towards Manolo do what you have to to get me away!  ;)   Anyways… the reason I bring up shoes is because a friend sent me a pair of unusual shoes for Christmas.  I have an obsession with bubble lights and she found these somewhere and decided they must be mine.  I love them.  But… they are dangerous and well.  Here look…

Now you see what I mean?   Not exactly your average shoe… but they DO make a statement!  So I’m on the fence on if I’m taking them with and if I take them with if I am BRAVE ENOUGH to wear them in public.  But of all places in the world, I really think Vegas will be able to handle these babies long before Ohio will.  So… yay or nay?  I think with jeans I may be able to get away with it.  Maybe…

Gotta take the bad with the good!

The BAD (slash sad)

I was SO excited for my shootsac the other week.  I’ve been waiting for it since I ordered… and waiting… and waiting.  Today I get a call that the cover that I was so excited to see – was sold out!  *sniffle*  They had tried to call me last week sometime but the phone number I gave was disconnected.  Darn sleep-deprived fuzzy married brain.  I keep forgetting that I have moved.

The GOOD

Today I finally talked with Shootsac and not only do I get to stop shooting daggers of ice with my eyes towards the UPS man as he trucks on by my house, but I also get a free cover for the mess up!  YAY!  I’m still sad about my loss, that cover fit perfectly with my logo!!!!!!  However I really was lusting after gold strike and tranquility was a runner up so I got both of those.  Hopefully I will be as happy with them as I was/would have been with well rounded.  Still a bit of a bummer but I always appreciate a company that will go the extra mile to make things right!

Feed the Birds… um Squirrels!

Posted on February 24, 2008

I like birds but for some reason the little furry guys have always captured my heart.  I have a few that knock on my office window during the day and chat at me.  I swear, I’m not making this up.  They are just cute and friendly and I love them!  So I started feeding them.  I can’t help but feel sorry that they can’t get to their buried treasure which is hidden beneath all this snow in Ohio!  So here’s a couple shots of one of my favorite guys nibbling on his lunch!

Tonight is Oscar night which is one of my favorite days of the year.  I adore the dresses and most of all THE SHOES!  I can’t wait until the red carpet kicks up!!!!

Lunar Eclipse

Posted on February 20, 2008

Tonight I decided to brave the cold temperatures (8°F with an ungodly windchill) and take some pictures of the lunar eclipse.  I’ve always been a bit of a moon freak when it comes to shooting (especially on vacation when there is any sort of body of water nearby).  I’ve yet to capture a lunar eclipse though so I wanted to give it a whirl.  It’s the eve of my birthday and I don’t think I’ll ever have a lunar eclipse close out a year of my life again so it also has a neat meaning to me as well!  Enjoy!

Beginning of the lunar eclipse.

Total Eclipse (of the heart… sorry can’t help it!).

Shootsac

Posted on February 14, 2008

I just ordered something that I’ve been coveting for a long time, a Shootsac!  I know that there are the photogs that turn their nose at it because it’s kind of like the Coach or LV bag in the camera world but it is exactly the kind of thing I’ve been looking for to complement my lovely backpack at shoots.  I discovered in my last travel excursion that the backpack is fantastic for flying and getting places but I really needed something functional to replace my well used and loved Canon back from my film SLR days.  Yes, I am/was a Nikon shooter with all her gear in a Canon bag!  *gasp*  I also ordered a really cute cover with it that I’m hoping will be half as fantastic in real life as it is on screen.  Happy Valentine’s Day to me – and to all of you!  I hope that you are all spoiled rotten by those you love.

I have to add that my husband was quite fabulous to me this year, I got gorgeous pink roses and a pink Blackberry Pearl for our first Valentine’s Day as man and wife.  My friends and I also do a secret cupid exchange so those that don’t have a significant other aren’t left out (and those that don’t have a SO that REMEMBERS vday!) and she loaded me up with some lovely bath bombs from Lush.  I have to say, I did pretty darn well this year!  It’s almost like Christmas part duex (or an early birthday).

Have a WONDERFUL day!!

The Gulf Coast

Skybus is my new favorite airline!  At the beginning of January, they had a sale on flights for $20.08 each way.  I booked a trip for a couple weeks later to go down and visit some friends of mine that live in Louisiana.  I had a great time and saw a lot.  I’ve visited there quite a lot but I always manage to find something new to see and do.  This year I stayed at the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville.  It is quoted to be the most haunted house in America.  I stayed by myself (the hubby couldn’t make the trip) and I have to say I had a blast.  I didn’t see any ghosts per se but I did see some strange happenings!  I love plantations and I was mostly excited about just staying in one – the ghosts were just extra excitement!  Below are some shots from my trip!

Le Beau Plantation in Arabi, LA facing the Mississippi River.

Le Beau Plantation facing the street.  This plantation was slated for restoration prior to Hurricane Katrina, I’m unsure of her destiny now.

The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, LA.

Rocking chairs on the back veranda at the Myrtles.

Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, LA on River Road.  The largest plantation left in the South at 53,000 square feet!  Hopefully they had maids ;)

Bon Sejour aka Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, LA on River Road.  Most will recognize this from Interview With the Vampire.  The Live Oaks here are over two centuries old!

Evergreen Plantation in Edgard, LA on River Road.  One of the most complete plantation complexes left in the South.

Slave Cabin row at Evergreen Plantation.  Very few cabins remain and those that do are rarely in their original location.  I believe this may be the only row still surviving in the South.

Individual cabin in the row – hard to believe these were still lived in in the 1950’s isn’t it?

Miss Petra P did not enjoy having Ohio weather invade Louisiana!

Petra gives her friend Sydney a hug.  Toddlers can so quickly steal your heart can’t they?

Biloxi Lighthouse.  It was damaged in Hurricane Katrina and was just recently restored.  I want to say this is the only lighthouse in Mississippi that survived.

Movin' On Up!

Posted on February 11, 2008

I’ve moved back to Wordpress hosted on my on serverspace.  Blogger is nice, but I don’t like the layout ideas nor do I really like the setup of the commenting.  I’m trying to move everything over here but it make take some time so bear with me (I will postdate so it doesn’t confuse anyone).

Don’t mind the layout, I’m still trying to find my nitche.  I found one that was perfect, hacked it to include a few things I needed and discovered that it didn’t support images in the posts.  That’s not going to work!!  So it’s back to the drawing board.  So don’t be too surprised if there’s a few weird looking pages before I find what is right for me.

Please update your bookmarks to http://www.coreyann.net/blog !  Thanks!
