Downtown Chicago Engagement Session with Katie and Bart

Chicago Engagement Session in May

Last May I got to head over to Chicago for a fun engagement session with Katie and Bart.  They had gone back and forth on adding the engagement session or not and luckily our schedules both allowed me to come out to them in Chicago and spend a day photographing them in the city where they met and fell in love.

It had been a LONG time since I’ve been to Chicago so it was fun to revisit the city.  I had all of these grand plans on what to do and see, especially since I had just finished up Devil in the White City and wanted to check out where the World’s Fair was.  Unfortunately for me (but fortunately for Katie and Bart), the weather was rainy and terrible for the entire trip but the few hours I spent with them during their engagement session.  So all of my grand plans were scrapped and I ended up reading in my room at the Loews and enjoying the view from my dry room – and it was actually still a wonderful trip.  Give me a good view, a comfy hotel room and a good book and I’m happy!

We did a ton of walking through the city during Katie and Bart’s engagement session so in the end I did still get to do quite a bit of sight seeing so not all was lost.  While the fog obscured the skyline for most of the session we did get one pop of sun at JUST the right time.  Yay!  They were such a fun couple to get to visit the city with and I loved getting to not only hear their story about how they met and fell in love but visit the spots where it happened as well.  I love when my clients are able to return to important places to take photos!

I photographed these two a few months later in July and it was one of my favorite weddings of the year – hopefully I’ll get that blogged in the next month or so!

Hyatt Regency Cleveland At The Arcade Wedding with Jackie and Jonathan

Hyatt Regency Arcade Wedding Bridal Party

In May I met up with Jackie and Jonathan for their wedding at the ever amazing Hyatt Regency Arcade in Cleveland.  I was excited to be back at one of Cleveland’s most popular wedding venues with this lovely couple.

I started the day with Jackie getting ready and ended it with all the guests on the dance floor.  Thanks to the Cleveland Music Group’s amazing DJ DC the dance floor was packed all night long with everyone from young to old cutting a rug!

Jackie and Jonathan are so sweet together.  They chose to exchange gifts during their first look which I thought was a lovely idea!  It makes so much more sense to open a gift from your beloved WITH them so you can each talk about the process and thank them properly!  In the craziness of a wedding day sometimes those thoughts get lost when you finally see one another.  I loved this twist on the tradition and hope other couples in the future do the same.  That same thoughtfulness spread through the entire wedding and everything had lovely personal touches.  Even though I just met them that day, I felt like I had known them for years by the time I left.

Thank you both for trusting me with your day.  It was a joy to work with you both!

Country Cottage & Gardens Wedding with Ashley and Daniel

April Wedding at Country Cottage & Gardens

I was super excited to work with Ashley and Daniel back in April at their Country Cottage & Gardens wedding in Mineral City.  When we chatted on the phone Ashley and I instantly clicked and that feeling is so fun!  One of the best things about their wedding was just how personal it was to them.  Although I don’t know them well just with all the details and thought they put into their wedding I felt like I walked away as a friend.  They did SUCH a lovely job!

They also had Harry Potter music for their ceremony and I may have done an inner jig when the music began to play.  I had JUST got back from my first trip to the Wizarding World in Hollywood so it was a very Potter-y April!

Since I always have to mention weather because I am a weather nerd (thanks Dad!) I have to tell you I was kind of nervous about their wedding.  Their venue, Country Cottage & Gardens, is outdoors and she was hoping that it wouldn’t rain.  They got SO lucky because in late April it can do anything from rain to snow and anything in between.  While it was cool it was really a beautiful sunny day and most people were fine with just a light jacket or sweater.  You can’t ask for anything better especially in Ohio!

The overwhelming feeling of the day was joy though.  Ashley and Daniel were just so happy to be married and start their lives together.  Smiles were on EVERYONE’s faces and I don’t know that I have seen a wedding where everyone – friends and family – came together as truly one big happy family.  Everyone from their bridal party to their family and friends were so kind and sweet to me and my second photographer (shout out to the amazing Andrew!) that even we felt like we were a part of the family as well.

Thank you both so much for trusting me with your special day!
