It never ceases to amaze me just how many wonderful venues there are in Northeast Ohio for weddings. While I love returning to old favorites (I’m looking at you Stan Hywet) I also love discovering new and beautiful places that I haven’t had the pleasure of discovering yet. One of those new locations is the Conrad Botzum Farmstead which I got to visit for the first time with Brian and Heather a couple weeks ago. I love historical things and this barn and the area around it were straight up my alley and I am so happy that I finally got to visit the farm! As you’ll see, it’s absolutely charming in its rustic glory.
Due to the crazy winter weather we had, Heather didn’t end up with the snowy engagement session she had hoped for and we ended up doing their engagement session just a few weeks before their wedding so it wasn’t a long wait to work with them again! Luckily the weather gods smiled on them and their wedding day had absolutely perfect weather. No humidity, no rain, blue skies and just a slight chill at night – perfect for dancing outside! They also got lucky with the crazy rains the week before and their venue remained (mostly) unscathed. The only thing they had to change was the location of the ceremony which they moved over just a bit to be out of the muddy area remaining. In Ohio you never know what weather you’re going to get so I was so thrilled when the weather held and it was a beautiful day.
All day was just like the weather – easy and beautiful. I loved all of the personal touches that Heather incorporated into their wedding. Instead of a sand ceremony they did a similar ceremony with glass which will eventually be blown into a beautiful vase. By far one of the coolest unity items I’ve seen! Instead of signing a traditional guestbook the guests signed wooden hearts which will later be glued onto a frame. There were a dozen more details like this – from the chalkboard custom mason jar mugs to the hand painted ceremony sign that made this wedding even more special. It was like a Pinterest board come to life!! The night ended with a sendoff and a bit of playing with sparklers – which is definitely something I want to do again this summer. Any couples willing???
Thank you to Brian and Heather for trusting me to capture your day!

The sun was BLAZING when we arrived to take portraits before the wedding began but luckily there was this little nook with gorgeous light we could play in!
How gorgeous are her flowers? LOVE!
I love pretty much any bridal party size but I must confess, the tiny parties of 4 are my favorite. Check out Heather’s Sister, the Maid of Honor’s necklace! LOVE!
I couldn’t pass up this opportunity for a cheesy pic with the door openings.
This sign was perfect. I have seen it a few times now and I LOVE this idea and not because I did the no-sides thing myself.
Their wedding was another unplugged wedding and it was perfect. Oh, that blog is making the rounds again.
The new Mr. & Mrs.!!!
This cake topper was BEGGING for a ring shot!
Heather’s facial expression during the garter removal were HILARIOUS.
Confession: I have a weakness for twinkle lights and how they just make everything more magical.
They had a sparkler exit and thankfully this time no one caught on fire (yes, that happened at a past wedding, I don’t recommend this when it’s windy!).
After their exit we played with sparklers just a bit and I hope to get to play again with another couple this summer, any volunteers? I promise not to light you on fire! 😉
