Jessica and Jeremy’s Session in Colorado Springs

Last June (yes I’m that far behind on the blog!) I headed out to Colorado to see my friend Jill and to take pictures of her friends for their engagement session/family portrait.  I was so excited to finally see Colorado during the summer rather than the winter (I’ve been a few times but always in the winter or early spring which is still winter in Colorado lol).  Of course, this means it’s wildfire season and as my luck goes, there were multiple wildfires when I was there.

When I landed, which was the day of the session, the sky was full of murky smoke even all the way in Denver and the winds were shifting the fires.  The highway kept getting closed due to the nearness of the Black Forest Fire but luckily we were able to make it into Colorado Springs and to the location that we’d previously decided on which is also their wedding location, Hillside Gardens.  You could see the smoke around us during the shoot but then came the rain.  It was probably one of the wilder sessions I’ve done going from still smoky air, to wind and rain and back again.
So here’s a crazy but fun engagement/family session from a place far from home!

This is by far not a perfect portrait but it made me laugh so hard!  Their son was playing around and found out he had rust on his hands and face then leapt up just as I snapped this picture to go wash his hands.

This tunnel was by far my favorite place in the gardens!

Of course, after being in there for just a few moments, the wind picked up and then the rain came!
