Epcot

Confession: until I started to actually plan my trip to Epcot, I thought that it was all inside of the golf ball that holds the roller coaster Spaceship Earth.  I hope I’m not the only one.

I went to Epcot with one mission: to drink around the world.  I did skip a couple countries but I accomplished my mission!  Due to the intent of drinking myself silly (spoiler alert: I was still sober at the end) I left the D700 at the hotel and just went with my iPhone that day.  So these pictures aren’t nearly as pretty as the rest  but I figured I’d blog them anyways so you can see just how much alcohol I was able to ingest and remain sober.  LOL.  I blame eating for this fail.

Like everything else for the trip, I researched the hell out of Epcot and knew which drinks to get where and had got the recommendation from friends and bloggers to start out in Mexico and not Canada for the trip around the world.  Thanks to you dear people for being the reason I didn’t make a fool out of myself on our last day!  Ha!

As you can tell, my niece Erica was THRILLED to go to Epcot.  She later left the adults and was much happier running around Epcot with a much healthier Drew.   I jokingly titled this image “The Happiest Place on Earth.”

We started the day out by hitting the World of Coca-Cola and I was under the impression they would be all the standard “coke” flavor but for the different countries.  You all may know how much I love my Mexican Coca-Cola so I was excited for this adventure.  Turns out, it’s just the strange regional sodas offered in different countries.  This is what happens when you drink Beverly.

In Mexico you can get your margarita at the little stand they have around the lagoon but everyone recommended heading inside and going to La Cava del Tequila and getting one of their margaritas instead.  If you follow them on Twitter you can also get free chips and salsa with a drink purchase.  They were yummy!  I ordered the wrong margarita here (cucumber) and it was just awful.  Luckily they were kind enough to let me get a new one and this time I went with the crowd favorite – blood orange.  SO GOOD.

After Mexico it was time to head over to Coral Reef where our reservations were for our sit down dinner of the day.  While the atmosphere was amazing, the service was by far the worst we had the entire trip.  I got steak, which was decent but the mashed potatoes had onions in them.  I had no idea they would – on the menu they were listed as cheesy mashed potatoes – so when they came out I was bummed to see scallions and onions in the mix.  I asked if I could get something else because I am allergic to onions and our waiter FLIPPED OUT.  It was just a really bad experience.  There was an opening for Le Cellier and I’m regretting not switching us over to it.  Ah well, live and learn.

We separated from Erica and Drew who headed to the rides while we went drinking.  We skipped Norway because they only had beer (while I like beer I was going for the liquor and trying not to mix TOO much) and hit up China where I picked up a Green Tea Plum Wine Slush that I had to make Chris finish for me because I was just not digging it.  Yuck.

Yay for Germany!  I got a shot of Apfelkorn (which I LOVED) and Dawn & Eric got beer.  We all got pretzels but they were rock hard and not nearly as good as I’d hoped.  Bummer.  We perused the store and I still regret not picking up a pickle ornament while there.  After the other day at the Magic Kingdom, I kept my eyes  peeled for the “hidden” lightning rods that Drew informed me where everywhere in Disney.  He was right.  Just look at Germany!

Next up was Italy and I got a bellini which was perfect for how hot it was getting.  We kicked around going into the winery but Epcot was PACKED that day and I didn’t feel like waiting in line.  If/when we go back I’d definitely plan to make time to visit it as everyone raves about it.

In Japan I did a quick shot of sake (no pic) and then we hit the restrooms in the United States but I opted to skip the beer again.  Onto Morocco where I got a really liquidy daiquiri (the machine to freeze them was broken) and Chris decided to stop for a snack.  He really enjoyed his food and while it was a bit odd, my daiquiri wasn’t too terrible.  It was nice to take a bit of a break from the walking and the heat.  August in Florida is no joke!  WHEW!  I think of all of the countries I may have enjoyed the theming of Morocco the most.

Next up was by far my favorite of the tour: France.  I got champagne and Chris got a Orange Grey Goose Slush.  IT WAS AMAZING.  Now, I love my champagne but I was jealous of his drink.  So jealous I had to get my own.  Up until this point, Dawn and Eric had been splitting their drinks but they got their own of the slush too.  So so so good.  We met someone from Ohio in line and chatted with him and his wife for quite some time and Drew and Erica met back up with us.  Drew was shocked that I was still sober as he’d been following my instagram play-by-play of my drinking shenanigans and expected to find Aunt Corey plastered.  I guess my liver is a champ – or I have got wise in my old age and learned how to pace!  Ha!  Honestly though I think it was a combination of pacing + food.  I also really didn’t drink much that was strong.

We crossed the bridge and landed in the United Kingdom and I drug Drew with me into the Rose & Crown and I got a pint of Snakebite and Black – my first (and only) beer of my tour.  I made Drew take a picture with me before he and Erica left us silly adults again to head off to Hollywood Studios to see Fantasmic.  Dawn and Eric waited in a long line for Fish & Chips and said that they were amazing.  I sat and people watched which is always quality in Disney.

Our final stop was in Canada where Chris got a Labatts and I got a Torontoploitan and enjoyed my 10th and final drink of the day.  We kicked around staying for the Illuninations show but most were tired and decided to call it an early night and head back to our hotel.  I wasn’t tired yet (shocking!) so I got changed and headed down to the hotel pool and swam around until the storms rolled in and chased me back inside.  I don’t know why but one of my favorite things has always been night swimming so I’m glad I was able to sneak in a chance to do just that while in Florida.
