Viewing Ratings on Facebook

Sorry Brides and Grooms, this post is not for you!  Unless you also own a business with a Facebook Page profile, then of course read on!

A new change happened over on Facebook a couple months ago where the ratings for your Facebook Page started showing up under your header with a link to the reviews.  The problem was at the same time they also made it possible to start rating businesses without leaving a review and the business owners have no way to know you rated them.  Sure, it may be great if you had a really bad experience at a restaurant but more often than not it’s competition giving you a ding to take your overall score down OR it’s an accidental hit when scrolling through your phone waiting to pick up lunch.

While there’s no way to see the majority of the reviews there IS a way to see a few more of the star only ratings.  When I originally found this method, one of my friends had one the accidental one star rating when scrolling in the wee hours so I was able to get her to correct it and make my overall star rating go up a bit.  While this may not be a huge deal to 99% of you it sure made me a happy camper!

Why do you care about your rating you ask?  Well, it’s part of the first overall impression one sees when they are viewing my business Facebook Page for the first time on a mobile device (I disabled the check ins for my page so that they no longer appear when viewing on a computer).   The only way to completely get rid of them is to mark your page as a non-business but since I AM a business I want to still be categorized as one to hopefully continue to occasionally get likes from people looking for photographers locally on Facebook.  Especially since they are trying to be a search engine someday.  Here’s hoping that fails!!!  Ha!

Note that this only works for some Pages.  Certain categories have the ratings, some do not.

Here’s the little trick I found that will show you a few more stars (from your friends):

Start by logging into the Facebook App on your iPhone,  not the Pages Manager that is a separate app. .  If you have an Android I have NO idea what yours will look like/do, sorry!

Click on the “More” Button.

Then click on the page you are wanting to view the star ratings on.

Find Star Ratings on Facebook

When your page is open, click on the “Public” tab on the right hand side beneath your cover image.

Find Star Ratings on Facebook

This is what that page will look like when you click over to the Public side.

Note that you can rate yourself here and as you can see, I have no shame in thinking I’m awesome.

Scroll down and you will see the overview of the ratings.  Note, these ratings again can not be seen when logged into Facebook on a computer, only via mobile.  Still sucks this is what greets people when I have all 5 star ratings.

*cue violin*

Keep scrolling.

Now once you get to where the ratings are with words, look below for a grey box with “All Reviews”  and click the arrow over.

Find Star Ratings on Facebook

At the top you will see the reviews from your friends that you just saw, maybe a few more if your friends are super awesome and have left worded reviews for you.

Keep scrolling!

TA DA!!!  Are you cursing someone silently?  Are you relieved none of your friends are secretly hating you?

Yes, there be ratings!

I have a lot more than this but I think you get the gist?

Find Star Ratings on Facebook

Yes, I know this isn’t ALL ratings.  I have no idea what secret nook those are hiding in.  Facebook is strange and stupid but even being able to see a dozen ratings that I hadn’t been able to see before – AND get one corrected – made my day.  I thought I’d share the knowledge.  The Reading Rainbow!!!  I’m dating myself AND up too late, apologies.

If you remove your physical address and map it removes the stars and ratings from your mobile page. It takes a few hours for it to take effect, but it works. I had a competitor talk their relative into writing something pretty rotten and I was livid. But because of the dumb way Facebook has this set up, you have no way of defending yourself or refuting the claim, shoo just removing the option can be a good option.ReplyCancel

Sorry I forgot to add that you have to change the category to something other than a company or business. You can keep your sub categories, but changing it to a community page removes the ratingsReplyCancel

I can’t see any reviews from ‘non friends’. Do you know if that is normal? (I do have a one star and a three star review that I want to solve if at all possible – or at least hear what their beef was so that I may learn from it)ReplyCancel

Thanks for this Corey. I don’t have a map and so have never had ratings on my page. Very interesting!

It’s really too bad that competitors spend time doing poor things like this. If they put half that effort into bettering their business practices, they’d naturally rise above the competition.ReplyCancel

This is great, thanks for sharing! I just really wish I could see those who are not my friends who rated me. My sexy page got 14 – 1 star ratings and I have to think its people with conservative taste who don’t like the nature of the photography and have never worked with me. It’s not fair to my potential clients who do like my work and are trying to gauge if I’m a good person to work with when they see 14 – 1 star ratings from people who have never even spoken to me. Luckily, on my non-sexy photo page I have 55 5 star ratings. That makes me very happy. 🙂ReplyCancel
