Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade Double Wedding
February 5, 2019
After over ten years of photographing weddings there are few things that I haven’t photographed. However last June I got to do something I had never done before and to be honest I was a little bit intimidated by it. I had my first double wedding. What is a double wedding? Of course there’s many different ways to do it but for my wedding last June it was two sisters marrying on the same day to two different grooms (who were not brothers, which I was the most often question I got).
It was a SUPER tight schedule as you can imagine (you should see my PDF timeline of this, it’s insane) so that was the cause of my intimidation because as most of us know, weddings can go completely off schedule by one slight mishap. Thankfully due to an amazing vendor team and my own team (there were THREE of us shooting this wedding!) nothing ever was too far off time wise, even when some last minute sewing needed to be done.
This is going to be the most photo heavy post I’ve ever posted and trust me when I say I’ve narrowed it down as far as I can bear to. But sometimes with two ceremonies and a double reception you’re just going to go over your made up self-rule of 50ish images for a blog post. Trust me though, these weddings are worth the patience to sit and scroll!
Thank you SO much to Nicholas, Barbie, Kristin and Kris for trusting me to document your amazing wedding day. It was so much fun and crazy in all the best ways.
Ceremony #1: Church of the Holy Angels / Ceremony #2 & Reception: Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade / Cake: Wild Flour Bakery / DJ: Flash Jam Entertainment / Florist: Al Wilhelmy Flowers / Hair & Makeup: Cleveland Makeup Artistry by Karin Dodge / Transportation: A-1 Mr. Limo
The first ceremony of the day was the wedding of Barbie and Nicholas. Me and Nicole started out with the ladies at the Bridal Suite at the Hyatt Arcade where Barbie and her ladies were getting ready.
Meanwhile Nicholas got ready at their house with his guys and Andrea was there to document it.
I love this image that Andrea captured of Nick before the ceremony in their backyard.
She had some more time than we did with the girls (guys have it SO easy!) so she was able to do some photos with the guys after they were dressed. I love the grey suits with the green bow ties.
I love this photo of Nick seeing Barbie coming down the aisle.
Barbie and her father walking up the aisle at the beautiful Church of the Holy Angels in Chagrin Falls.
I always love the first moments the brides and grooms get to actually take in each other, Nick’s grin here says it all!
With three photographers on their day we were able to capture the moments from all the angles like this one of Nick from Nicole’s spot.
While Andrea was also capturing Barbie’s emotions at the same time.
While I was in the middle, waiting for THE kiss! With this there was one ceremony down!
After the ceremony we didn’t have a ton of time to go offsite for portraits since Kristin had to change from her bridesmaid gown into her wedding dress so we made do with a pretty spot in the parking lot. As you can tell, it was beautiful and it worked in a pinch!
While I was capturing the bridal party from the front Nicole was to the side doing her thing!
I cannot tell you how much I adored the varying pink shades of the bridesmaid gowns. I see a lot of people worry about it not working and as you can see above, it worked absolutely beautifully!
The three sisters! Their relationship was so lovely to document, they all care about one another so much!
Again, more gushing about the green. There is just not enough green weddings. I loved it paired with the grey suits!
Barbie wore a beautiful two piece wedding gown in blush pink and it was PERFECTION. I have a thing for loving colored wedding gowns and this one ranks up there on my favorite gowns. It was SO perfect on her and just so beautiful in person!
Aww. These two just couldn’t be cuter.
I need to give a massive shout out to Al Wilhelmy Flowers for the gorgeous florals they designed for the weddings. Barbie and Nick’s wedding was pink and green while Kristin and Kris’s wedding was maroon and green and they NAILED IT with these flowers that tied together without clashing yet were able to stand on their own for each wedding/party. Bravo!
Seriously, how cute are these two?
The sweet tender moments are always my favorites!
Then it was back to the Hyatt Arcade to get prepped for the second wedding ceremony! The ladies had fun while Kristin wrote out her vows.
Meanwhile Andrea was over with Kris who had spent the day hurrying up and waiting and was excited to finally get ready to get married!
Luckily his groomsman were on hand to help!
I loved this sweet sign for the ceremony!
Kris getting a bit teary eyed when seeing Kristin coming down the stairs.
Thanks to having three photographers we were able to get all the angles of Kristin’s beautiful entrance!
Once at the bottom of the stairs Kristin’s Mom joined her father to walk her down the rest of the aisle.
I have photographed many ceremonies here and I hope to continue to photograph many more because HOW PRETTY IS THIS?!
While I had the main floor covered Nicole and Andrea were up top capturing the ceremony from above.
The vows that they wrote to one another were perfect!
I love that they also tied the knot literally!
Thumbs up!
The kiss!
Ta da! Wedding ceremony #2 is done and everyone is married! Yay!
After the family portraits we headed out onto East 4th for some more photos. Two bridal parties are definitely more fun than one!
While I finished up a few more portraits of Barbie and Nick, Andrea took over for Kristin and Kris and captured some gorgeous images of their bridal party. If you’re curious, Nicole was inside photographing the cocktail hour and allll the beautiful details inside the Hyatt! The guys looked stellar in their three piece suits. Of course they have to have a bit of fun or photo taking time is the WORST. Again, I love how the pink bridesmaid gowns went for both weddings and despite being mismatched they looked perfectly perfect! Barbie was also a bridesmaid but she had a few more wedding photos to take so it was just the two sisters along with Kristin. Yay! I finally got to play with Kristin and Kris a bit! We didn’t have a ton of time since the cocktail hour was going on but they were so easy to work with and we were able to get in some beautiful images in the short time we had together. I adore this. All of this. These two were SO sweet together! This is the last time I think that I saw these lights actually LIT in this little nook on East 4th Street and I’m glad they were because they just add a bit of fun to photos! See what I mean about these two being adorable? Kristin went for the more classic look but I loved it just as much. How amazing is this bouquet! It is so freaking huge and amazing! Kris looked quite dapper as well. Whew. Now we are to the reception. I know it’s been a long post but it gets better. Thanks for hanging in! I loved their simply elegant white and gold skyline wedding cake by Wild Flour Bakery. The floral centerpieces by Al Wilhelmy Flowers were stunning with the greenery, white roses and hydrangeas, pink roses and red roses. PERFECTION! They had a large king table with each couple at the ends with this beautiful greenery rope down the center. Doesn’t this just look beautiful?? I love the gold chiavari chairs! Two cake kisses! I really loved how they decided to skip introducing each bridal party member by name and instead opted for “The Groomsman!” and all the groomsman walked down the stairs while dancing and having a great time! Then The Bridesmaids entered a little bit more low key though since they didn’t want to trip on their gowns. Then Barbie and Nick entered while dancing down the stairs – peep Barbie’s awesome comfy shoes! Smart girl! I LOVED how Kristin and Kris really got into it and had fun dancing on one of the landings! They went right into toasts after the introductions and they went beautifully! How cute are these two? AND these two! There were a lot of loving looks and giggles. Cheers to all of you! After dinner they moved onto the first dances and Kristen and Kris started it off! I’m a sucker for the lights at the Hyatt. They are so beautiful! Then Barbie and Nick took their first spin on the dance floor. Love! The girls then danced with their father followed by the guys dancing with their moms. Then Flash Jam Entertainment opened up the dance floor and it was PACKED. I love that they did the bouquets and garters at the same time! Then the formalities were done and everyone just let loose on the dance floor for the rest of the night! Of course I had to play with the rings before leaving for the night. How fun is Kristin’s ring? I’m obsessed with the antique vibes!
